London: Henry G. Bohn, 1855. 3/4 Leather Binding. Good. London: Henry G. Bohn, 1855. 7 1/8 x 4 5/8 inches: pp. xliv, 427. 3/4 leather over marbled boards, leather corners. Four raised bands, black spine label with titles in gilt.

Spine title bright, corners bumped, with some rubbing and light general wear. Bookplate, foxing to endpapers. Text clean, unmarked and bright in tight binding.

With a memoir of the author written by Walter K. Kelly. Margaret [1492-1549 Along with her brother, King Francis I, was the major force in the cultural renaissance in France during his reign. The Heptameron loosely followed the model of Boccacio's in being a series of short stories. "Their conversations and debates are more meaningful than the stories on which they are based because they reflect Marguerite's preoccupation with ethics and her analytical interest in topics such as love and friendship, marriage, faithfulness, and the conflict between faith and religion."
