With 11 coloured heliogravure (sepia toned print) illustrations, NOT FULL COLOUR. 48 Half tone plates. Col. frontis with tissue guard. Coloured map of Campania. Topography/the Inhabitants/earthquake of 63AD; eruption of 79 A.D. ; identifiable objects;Villa Suburbana, &c.; bibliography. This book is a history of Herculaeneum and a history of its excavations. There is substantial correspondence here published between the Authors and the Italian authorities being the pre requisites to their proposed excavation; it is not known if there excavation took place.Overview of the ancient site prior to the major excavations; concentration on the art works and artifacts already recovered. Front hinge repaired. INTERNALLY VERY GOOD CONDITION, CLEAN AND TIGHT.; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
