From the editor's note: " In this new volume...the Editor has followed the general plan adopted for the former one, - to make an Original Literary Miscellany in Prose and Verse, comprising Stories, Sketches, Essays, and Poems specially written for or contributed to it by various writers native to or identified with the Ohio Valley, accompanied by or illustrated with reproductions of Pictures and Drawings, as well as works in Sculpture by artists native to or identified with the Ohio Valley. The Editor feels confident that this new volume will be found in every respect equal to, if it does not surpass its predecessor, in both its literary and artistic contents, as well as in its general make-up as a specimen of the printer's art."
