Paris: Janet, 1816. 24mo. (xi), 402pp. First edition, deluxe issue. Illustrated with five stippled engravings of Christ and various saints, colored and heightened in gold. Title page in gold, with red flourishes. An elegant printed book of hours, with sections for saints' days, daily prayers, readings for communion, confession, and a variety of spiritual and mortal events, plus an index at rear. Rare: this title is not recorded in any institutional holding. Bound, as befitting its deluxe status, in green silk with gold embellishments to covers, spine, head, and tail. Green silk endpapers, green, white, and pink endbands, and an intact green ribbon bookmark. Housed in a green morocco slipcase with similar, but not matching, gilt styling. Fading only to exposed edge of book and spine of slipcase, minor bumps to corners, else fine. Bookplate of the library of "L'Ambassadeur de France et de La Vicomtesse de Fontenay," that is, Joseph de Fontenay, the French Ambassador to Madrid (1923-24) and the Holy See in Rome (1928-32) and Marie Rosalie Pichon.
