Scarce First Edition. MacMillan, London 1899.
Written by Stephen Gwynn (1864-1950), who was a one time Irish Nationalist MP for Galway, the book is a type of travel guide for the Ulster counties of Donegal and Antrim.
The book contains a total of 87 lovely illustrations by the noted Irish illustrator Hugh Thomson (1860-1920).
Book is is in very good condition. Green coloured boards with gilt lettering. Top edge of text block gilt, others rough cut. Some fading to boards particularly spine with head and tail rubbed. Binding good. Internally clean with no foxing, markings or inscriptions.
There is a pull out map of the counties in very good condition.
Front pastedown has the bookplate of previous owner, Matthew Mackey, a Newcastle upon Tyne collector. There is also a tiny label of Newcastle upon Tyne bookshop (Mawson, Swan & Morgan).
