The first edition of this work.A selection of thirty-eight essays by the Franco-English author Hilaire Belloc, many of which had been published previously in a variety of journals.Including 'The North Sea', 'The Inn of the Margeride', 'A Family of the Fens', 'The Cerdagne', 'At the Sign of the Lion', and more.Published in the same year that Belloc became a Liberal MP for Salford South. Forty pages of publisher's adverts to the rear, dated August 1906. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart, with a few minor marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the spine and extremities. Small chip to the spine. Odd spots to the fore edge. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some odd spots. Very Good
