Howes S-770: "In its completed form [this edition], the best French history of this war; Rochambeau aided in its preparation." Sabin 87290. Larned 1502: "Covers the whole field of the Revolution from 1774 to 1783, especially of the French and Spanish participation in the war. Sowerby 484: "Jefferson supplied Soules with material for this book, and corrected and edited Soules's own contributions ... the notes written by Jefferson were translated into French by Soules and incorporated into his work, with the result that the 'Histoire' has material not to be found in other contemporary histories ... this history, dedicated to Louis XVI, is considered [Soules's] best work."
