About This Item
1892. Early days in Logan County, OH, including Bellefontaine, West Liberty, Lewistown, West Mansfield, Belle Centre, Zanesfield, Huntsville, DeGraff, Quincy, Rushsylvania and West Middleburg, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 34 Page Booklet of excerpts reproduced directly from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio and other hard-to-find sources, such as the 1940 WPA book: The Ohio Guide. The spiral-bound booklet is single-sided on 60# paper, with the fine print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover. Among the many and diverse topics covered in the booklet are: Gen. Logan's expedition against the towns of the Shawanoe Indians; an Indian named Logan; two white captives; three lieutenant governors; a blind judge who ran for governor; Edward Knight, a man with a very large brain; and the multi-talented Piatt family. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses, and biographical information on Charles J. Chambers, Gen. Robert Kennedy, Judge William H. West and Judge William Lawrence. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 history of newspapers in the county, a brief look at Jonathan Adler, the Ohio Caverns, the Betty Zane Tavern and Don Piatt & Macochee from a 1941 Ohio history book, and maps showing the 88 Ohio counties and 1805 Ohio are also included. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. Illus. by Henry Howe. 8.5" x 11". Private Press.
