Minor shelf/edge wear and dust soiling to brown pebble-grain cloth beveled boards with black and gilt titles and accents - corners sharp. Binding solid. Decorative endpapers, previous owner bookplates on the inside of both front covers. Tyler was thoroughly convinced of the cultural value and importance of the literature, and not only the Puritan literature, written in the colonies. Tyler's work is the foundation for everything else written on colonial literature since. Tyler is not only well read, but he reads well, and so does this book. His insights into the styles of the various authors is remarkable. Handsome set in an simple but elegant binding. LOC SSS-21
