Each section has a title page as if from a separate book. Contains The History of Charles the Twelfth, King of Sweden, by M. de Voltaire; The Life of Edward Lord Herbert, of Cherbury, Written by Himself. With a Prefatory Memoir; Memoirs of the Life of Colonel Hutchinson by Lucy Hutchinson; The Life of Luther by M. Micheletm Translated by G. H. Smith; The Life and Adventures of Peter Wilkins, a Cornish Man: Relating Particularly His Shipwreck Near the South Pole, By R. S., A Passenger in the Hector; A Voyage Round the World, in the Years 1740, 41, 42, 43, 44 by George Anson, to Which Are Prefixed A Memoir of Lord Anson, and Preface. Some Frontispieces and illustrations to title pages, main text in double columns. Half leather over marble boards with gilt bands and gilt title "Biographies" on spine, tan end papers. Some wear to leather, especially along spine edges, small chip at bottom of front hinge, scuffs in leather center spine and heavy bumping of corners and spine ends, edge wear to boards, light spotting and some scratches, creases in paper on back cover, former owner's name and 1925 date on front free end paper with another name and date 1858 in pencil, interior pages bright and mostly clean with one or two spots, a little spotting of page edges, binding tight.
