Marbled page edges. 512 pp. with bw frontis (tissue guard) and 15 additional bw plates, most with tissue guards. A very early, scarce edition. Contents include the origin of the Southern Rebellion, effect of Lincoln's election in the South, pernicious influence of Jefferson Davis, the mission of Mr. Yancey and his associates to Europe, assembling of the Peace Congress, all sorts of battle history, and much more political history. Part 1 of 3.
