About This Item
New York: Rogers & Sherwood, 1887. Pictorial cover. Very Good +. A solid, well-preserved copy of the 1887 1st edition, in its pictorial green cloth (depicting in-gilt the sinking of "The Alabama"). Clean and VG+, with blindstamping and gilt-titling along the front panel and spine respectively. Light wear to the front inner hinge (which is still perfectly strong), mild rubbing to the panels. Just a touch of very light staining along the fore-edges of the preliminaries as well. Still though, a handsome, very presentable copy. Thick, heavy octavo, 824 pgs. (Continuing from the title page: "Its Stupendous Struggle with the Great Navy of the United States; the Engagements Fought in the Rivers and Harbors of the South, and Upon the High Seas; Blockade-Running, First Use of Iron-Clads and Torpedoes, and Privateer History."
