A new edition of this work, with the first edition being published in 1961 by Cassell. The Derby is one of the greatest of all horseraces for owners, trainers and jockeys alike. This volume explores the history of the race and is written by Roger Mortimer, who was Racing Correspondent for the Sunday Times. When first published this volume was hailed as "one of the finest racing histories ever written." The volume begins with the start of the 1844 Derby and continues into the mid to late 1900s. With eight colour plates and fifty one black and white illustrations. In the original clipped dust wrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Signed to the half title page with a gift inscription dated '73. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. In the original clipped dust wrapper which is very smart with some light chipping to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Fine
