About This Item
Halifax: A. & W. MacKinlay 1898. (Cloth) xvi, 448p. Good. 12mo. In original brown cloth boards; top cover blindstamped, the blinstamping has been outlined in pencil (perhaps by some industrious, overzealous youngster...we can only hope that they put as much effort into reading this precious tome as they did in defacing it). Inscription to publisher's first blank. Mapped EPs. Colour frontispiece illustration of "The Canadian Flag" (the Red Ensign). Starting at frontispiece, binding a little loose; still secure. B&W photos, maps, ports. Occasional light marginalia in pencil. Overall, a great early survey history of Canada. John Burgess Calkin (1829-1918) was headmaster of the Normal School, Truro, Nova Scotia and published a number of early Canadian text books..
