Rebound in marron cloth, spine titled in gold with decorated false bands.Vol 1, Earliest times to the Tudors (Henry VII), b/w frontis, " Queen Phillipa had thrown herself on her Knees ", 27 b/w plates and 31 b/w in-text illustrations, 507pp ; Vol 2, Henry VIII to Charles II, b/w frontis, " Oliver Cromwell ", 32 b/w plates and 46 b/w in-text illustrations, 618pp. ; Vol 3, James II to Queen Victoria ", 30 b/w plates and 37 b/w in-text illustrations,621pp. - in really excellent condition for its age Guizot became famous for "The History of France "which he wrote for the instruction of his grandchildren. He prepared notes for a History of England but died before he could write the finished text, this was done by his daughter, De Witt nee Guizot.
