Franklin Square, New York: Harper & Brothers, Publishers, 1891. Hardcover. Very Good. Undated, but ownership inscription dated March, 1895. Two volumes, hardcovers, full green cloth with blindstamped ruled borders and publishers device to front and rear covers, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, 6-1/4" tall, 371 + 395 pp., folding map as frontispiece to volume one. Bump to top front corner of vol.1, minor turning in to bottom corners, slight wear to spine ends, ownership inscription to each volume, very clean, solid, and present well. "M'Vickar's edition is a selection of passages reproduced verbatim, with linking commentary by the editor." Coues states that most editions of this text consisted of 250 copies (Beckham et al,"Literature of the L & C Exp." p. 181) The closest date to the 1895 inscription is 1891.
