Book has been rebound by library with new boards, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Illustrated black and white frontispiece and plates. Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Plates are bright and clear. Binding remains firm. Library plates, sticker and ink stamps to paste-downs and end-papers. Blind stamps throughout text block with no impact to text. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

In addition to the normal library markings and attachments, there are a few pages with margin marks. The back hinge is cracked on the top inch. The bottom edges of the covers have some wear. The cover has some light soil spots and a couple of scratches on the front. The spine has end wear with small tears and is darkened. Volume 4 only..

Heavy tanning to text block edges. Cracks to guttering throughout and to hinges, with exposed binding threads. Moderate rub-marking and tanning with inscriptions to pastedowns and endpapers. Boards are heavily worn, with severe corners bumping and crushing to edges. Large area of loss to spine and split to joints. Heavy tanning with rubbing and marking overall. Dents around edges. Binding remains firm.

Front and rear covers split and loose at joints, but holding on. Covers worn at corners, spine cover loose and chipped, binding shaken. Owner's name and date (January 1868), on front endpaper. Other than a few smudges and short tears to endpa;ers, interior is quite sound. A voluminous account of The French Revolution by a former prime minister of France.

"The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.

Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
