A sweeping history of ancient Greece by John Bagnell Bury, first published in 1900. The Irish-born author was a noted historian and wrote histories of the Roman Empire before writing this, his most notable work. In it, he details events from the earliest days of Greece through the life of Alexander the Great. Includes 209 illustrations and 8 maps (some of which fold out), along with author's marginalia and notes. --- In full navy cloth with spine titling in gilt. Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- A prior owner has highlighted a handful of passages in yellow in the first 50 or so pages of the book, with his infrequent inked notations & signatures to endpapers and bookseller sticker to front paste-down; otherwise a sound, tightly-bound copy.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xxv, 925 pages .
