The book is in Good Condition with some foxing on the pages and slight exterior edge wear. The three page edges are all gilted in gold. Inside there is a former owner's gift inscription to his son, dated 1917.Published in the year 1850 in Philadelphia, this book is illustrated with full page steel engravings. Attractive gilt decoration to the spine. There is cracking / splitting to the top edge of the front board, and it is in danger of becoming detached. Marbled endpapers and ex libris of Yves Refoule. Legrand has inscribed a 12 line poem and gift inscription to his friend Refoule. In addition, there are a few handwritten annotations and corrections to the text of the poems. It would appear that these were corrections made by Legrand. 30 pages. Music hall administrator, critic and historian, a specialist in circus and music-hall performances between the wars, Legrand collaborated closely with Jean-Marcel Chabrier and they produced many works as Andre Legrand Chabrier.
