Less than a month after its launching in 1883, the Jewelers' Security Alliance had organized a membership core, full slate of officers including a full time paid secretary, stated objective to safeguard members' safes, and help members to avoid and/or report their losses, acquired Counsel to prosecute thieves, and secured headquarters. The ensuing history records instances of jewelry robberies and subsequent apprehensions by JSA agents, growth of membership, development of a program to prevent burglaries, prosecution and punishment of thieves, administrating, and the current Alliance (1958) with 3700 jewelers on its rolls. Appendices include the Constitution and By-Laws (adopted April 25, 1883), a roster of membership, lists of Pinkerton offices and FBI offices, facsimile of application for scratch mark, and the 75th Anniversary History Committee members.Scarce history of interest to the jewelry community.
