Large format hardcover, no dustjacket, scarce original edition, original pebbled brown cloth binding, 771 pages, illustrated throughout, including fine engravings with protective tissue-guards and a color map, book has some wear to the cloth at top and bottom of spine and along the outer front hinge, we examined the contents page-by-page and they are clean and in excellent condition, 6 pages have a small area of tanning caused by small newspaper clippings, a date correction was made by the former owner on page 688, and two small and neat tape-mends have been made to tears on page 739 with no loss of text .
