Printed by Samuel Bentley ;London: for Taylor and Walton 35rd edition ALL PUBLISHED to date, 1837, 1838. Hardcover. Good. multi-folding map . 2 Volumes Octavo publisher's green cloth spined boards with original spine labels [corners & edges worn/spine labels darkened /head & foot of spine chipped but entirely sound] xxxiv [incl.Titlepage + Preface +contents] +626pp vol.2 xii [=half title + title +Preface +Contents] +644pp including Appendix I & II. Further volumes were issued but the next volume did not come out for 5 years and had a different translators and with slightly different titles. Ownerships to endpapers H.W.Hodgson Balliol college 1843, W.Congreve, Wadham College & Bookplate of Herbert and Mary Congreve. Endpapers and first few leavess sl.foxed else neat tight copies with useful footnotes throughout. *Born in Copenhagen Niebuhr was a key figure in German Romanticism, and Germany`s leading Ancient Historian, his history of Rome is considered a seminal work.
