San Francisco: A. L. Bancroft and Company, 1871. First Edition . Original Brown Cloth, Gilt. Very Good. 9 1/4" Tall. Large Folding Map, Frontispiece, 3 Plates. xv, 537 + large folding map at rear. Publisher's dark brown cloth, identical to blue binding with gilt "History of san Jose / Hall" on spine, blindstamped bands and rules, but lacking the gilt title on the cover of the blue cloth variant. Gilt bright, cloth lightly frayed at top, bottom and front edges of spine and at tips, hinges tight, contents crisp and complete. No names or bookplates, but pages have occasional tiny brown-black spots, and a few pages have short marginal emphasis lines. Map is crisp and undamaged.
