Philadelphia: L.J. Richards & Co., 1888. Early days in Sussex County, Delaware, are recalled in this new 148-page excerpt reprinted from J. Thomas Scharf's History of Delaware 1609 - 1888. The book, originally published in 1888 by L.J. Richards & Co., Philadelphia, PA, is printed on 8 1/2" x 11" 60# opaque paper. The front cover is an 80# card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. While the book does not include a biography section, it is full of names of early residents, beginning with a list of settlers receiving land patents in 1678, a list of trustees of the poor from 1791 to 1887, lists of other officials including an extensive lists of justices of the peace, notaries, and Levy Court Commissioners; tax rolls from various dates; Ministers; names on tombstones, etc. Much of the book is broken into chapters of the various "hundreds," geographic divisions within the county. These include Lewes and Rehoboth, Georgetown, Broadkiln, Indian River, Northwest Fork, Broad Creek, Nanticoke, Seaford, Little Creek, Dagsborough, Baltimore and Gumborough Hundred. .
