Colorado has only approximately 15 counties. The gold regions near Denver are shown, as are a number of Indian tribes, early towns, forts, etc. Dakota includes all of Wyoming.
The map shows early proposed railroads, forts, Indian tribes, rivers, mountains, etc. The plains region is still very much in transition, with the results of several major explorations commenced immediately after the civil war are not yet in evidence.

1876 1ed Abner Doubleday Civil War Gettysburg Reminiscences Fort Sumter Moultrie
Abner Doubleday was a 19th-century American Army officer known for his role in the Civil War, especially the Battle of Gettysburg. Following his military career, Doubleday wrote autobiographical sketches of his experiences in battle, including "Reminiscences of Forts Sumter and Moultrie". As captain at Fort Sumter, Doubleday made pivotal decisions that helped direct Union forces of the Confederacy.
Per Nevins of this work,
"This charming story, by a then-captain of artillery inside the two forts, is a memoir of merit because of the aura of its immediacy and intimacy."

1819 Kingdom of Naples 1st ed Calabria Ulteriore Travels Voyages Girace Brigands

"Occurrences During a Six Months' Residence in the Province of Calabria Ulteriore, in the Kingdom of Naples, in the Years 1809, 1810" by Lieut. Philip J. Elmhirst, offers a detailed account of the author's experiences and observations during his six-month stay in the Calabria Ulteriore province. Beginning with a harrowing shipwreck off Cape Stillo and the crew's subsequent detention by the local authorities, the narrative delves into the author's interactions with the inhabitants, the customs, and the landscape of the region. Elmhirst provides insights into the influence of French principles on the Roman Catholic-dominated populace, describes his travels across notable cities such as Girace and Casal-Nuovo, and sheds light on the dire state of regions affected by past earthquakes. A recurring theme is the oft-oppressive behavior of the French towards the local populace, from levying harsh contributions to the treatment… Read More
