Includes an 8 page section with black and white photo reproductions. [From jacket flap] Shoichi Okinaga was born in Tokyo on June 29, 1933. His father, Shobei, was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Teikyo School of Commerce and a member of the Ebara Ward Council at the time of Shoichi's birth. After graduating from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, Shoichi Okinaga began working for Teikyo School of Commerce as requested by his father. While Shoichi helped solve many school problems and develop improvements within the Teikyo group, he also worked at Kanto Central Hospital and Tokyo Police Hospital as an M.D. He earned his Doctoral Degree from the University of Tokyo in 1964 and received the annual award of the Japanese Obstetrics & Gynecological Society for his thesis research. The next year he helped create Teikyo Women's Junior College and was appointed as President. In 1966, at the age of 32, Dr. Okinaga established Teikyo University which is the core of the Teikyo Group. At present, the Teikyo Group has three universities, four junior colleges, six senior and junior high schools, and six kindergartens in Japan. Since the '70s, Dr. Okinaga has been developing international exchanges. In the late 1980s, his educational philosophy expanded as Teikyo established progressive educational relationships throughout the U.S.A. and Europe. Dr. Okinaga has received many honors from abroad due to his new visions and wide perspective. Among them, he was given Honorary Citizenship to West Virginia by Senator John D. Rockefeller IV in the spring of 1990, while visiting Teikyo affiliated campuses in the U.S.A.
