Inscribed and signed on half-title page by Bernt Balchen, to celebrated Los Angeles Herald-Express newspaperwoman Agness Underwood, dated 14 August 1950, Anchorage, Alaska; Exceptionally tight and clean, with faded light blue top edge; Dark orange cloth in beautiful condition with blind embossed compass decoration on front cover, gilt lettering/decoration on spine, minor shelf wear. Unclipped dust jacket, chipped corners and spine extremities, edges overall lightly worn and rubbed; 332p. Norweigan Bernt Balchen was an intrepid and fearless polar aviator, member of the OSS in Norway, and a highly decorated pilot, before, during and after World War II; He was known for his famous slogan, "Vee do it!".
