Hardcover. tall8vo, 24cm, in 4 volumes, 200 & 187 & 145 & 185pp., limited edition of 750 sets, this being #396, with 4 frontispieces, 15 text illustrations, appendix, bibliography, original ribbed blue cloth, gilt titles on dark blue title labels, t.e.g., upper spine titles rubbed (as usual), sound, near fine condition (gar). ~ The sporting novels of English novelist, poet, historian, illustrator, journalist and writer on sport. "as a classical scholar he had few equals in the United States . . . his knowledge of English history and literature was extensive; he was a pen and ink artist of marked ability; as a sportsman he was unsurpassed; his pupils idolized him." (Wiki). He emigrated to United States in 1831. The frontispiece in Volume 4 is a sketch portrait of Forester in shooting costume. With a tribute to Frank Forester by Harry Worcester Smith and a check list of the sporting works of Forester.
