[Los Angeles]: Oklahoma Defense Committee of International Labor Defense, 1940. 8.5x11 inch handbill, issued late 1940 or early 1941; mimeographed text, couple small edge chips, otherwise very good. On the case of Robert Wood, the communist owner of the Progressive Bookstore in Oklahoma City. He and others were charged with violating the Criminal Syndicalism Act, and their confiscated books taken to a fairground and burned. Wood was sentenced to ten years imprisonment and a $5,000 fine. This leaflet, oddly, does not mention the bookstore, only stating that books were taken from the homes of the defendants. Calls on the reader to write to the governor of Oklahoma and the District Attorney, as well as higher officials in DC, demanding that they defend the Bill of Rights. Argues that Hitlerism must be stopped in Oklahoma to prevent it from reaching California. Solicits donations to the ILD's Los Angeles office.
