About This Item

New York, 1937. Very good condition. Angenette Kempf [30 Aug 1894 - 5 Sep 1961] assembled this collection of family photographs, cabinet cards, and tintypes, particularly of her mother and father's respective sides of the family, and possibly family friends, the Henkens. Many family members represented from roughly 1840 - 1937. Images include the family silver, mahogany furniture, portraits of ancestors, tintypes, cabinet cards, snapshots and 1 stereoview. Agenette appears not to have married, and is buried along with most of her family in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY.

Father: Otto John Jeremiah Kempf married 10/17/1893 New York, NY.

Angenette's parents Otto Kempf and Lillie Hogencamp Rogers Kempf were married in 1893. In the NY 1915 census, they are living in the Bronx at 141st St. Otto (40) has no occupation, Otto Jr. (19) is an electrical supplies salesman and Angenette (21) & her mother (47) are listed as occupation the ubiquitous "housework". In 1925, they are living on W. 70th St. Father Otto's occupation was listed as the 'feather business' and 'Jersey City Const.' and his son Otto Jr. (28) was in shipping. In 1930 Otto aged 71, was a manufacturing agent, daughter Angenette was a school teacher, and son Otto Jr. in 'business/real estate'. In the 1940 US Census, Angenette is a Cosmetics woman at a department store, living in Manhattan with her father and brother.

Three photos of the Henken family who may have been cousins or family friends.

Looseleaf 9 x 6 1/2" with many pages on which photos, cabinet cards, tintypes are attached with photo corners. Approximately (76) snapshots 3 1/2 x 2 1/2"; (52) cabinet cards 6 1/2 x 4 1/4"; (3) tintypes 3 1/2 x 5", (1) stereoview. Looseleaf dusty, many pages detached but present, photographs/cabinet cards/tintypes in very good condition.

A very detailed archive on the Kempf/Hogencamp ancestry with captions and family associations written by daughter Angenette.
