Hartford, CT: Hudson & Goodwin, 1812. Thick small format King James Bible from 1812, about 6.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches thick. Full calf with diamond shaped section in lighter leather on front and rear covers, may have has a clasp or fastener at some point. Sturdy but worn, with heavy rubbing to the extremities, text block sound, endpapers absent, remnants of old bookplate inside the front cover and some old worming in that area along with the first four leaves, pags age-toned and edgeworn but with any significant chips or tears, minor old dampstain to final three leaves and some loss to the outer margins of the same few leaves, notation on blank verso of New Testament title page about loss of a previous owner's mother in 1826 along with a handwritten hymn and "she met the grim messenger of Death without dismay".. Hard Cover. Fair. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Hefty and handsomely bound Bible with Old and New Testaments, Apocrypha, many additional references, well illustrated throughout with color plates, full page and smaller engravings, chromolithographs. Full rich brown morocco leather with a deeply stamped fleur-de-lis pattern on both covers in black, gilt spine lettering, decoration in black, all edges gilt, tilt tooled inner dentelles. Measurements approximately 12.5 inches x 10.25 inches x 4.5 inches thick. Very well preserved with minimal wear, good hinges, firm text block, very lightly age-toned but clean pages, pencil notation dated 1888 on preliminary blank, names on marriage certificate (George C. Elliott, Haverhill, Mass. and Nellie Kelley, Salem, N.H.) and one entry on family record page (Marion H. Elliott, May 1889), no other markings.
