Another installment by the author to attempt to polarize Christian ethos and modern attitudes, by using an allegorical tale. Using 2 figures, Giovanni now old and blind, and, Tobias the eternal wanderer, from his previous novels, they are cast upon a bleak and desolate coast where they take shelter in an ancient temple. Their only companions our herdsman " . Simple, kind, ageless men. In this atmosphere they play out their lives, each surrendering at depth the precious empty locket once given by Giovanni." Par Lagerkvist (1891-1974) , the author of some thirty-five books, was celebrated in his time for his versatility as a poet, dramatist, essayist, and novelist.
