Bound in a full calf prize binding with the gilt motif of Cheltenham College to the front cover.First published in 1864. This is the New Edition, revised and enlarged throughout. Written by British academic, historian and politician James Bryce, who was an honorary fellow of Trinity and Oriel Colleges, Oxford. This study provides a comprehensive history of the Holy Roman Empire, commencing with a chronological list of events, from the Battle of Pharsalus in B.C. 48, until the war between the French Empire and Germany in 1870. The work also includes a chronological list of the Emperors and Popes from this period. Illustrated with three folding maps, in colour, depicting the Holy Roman Empire in different years. Collated, complete.With a prize bookplate awarding the book to A. H. S. Hinchcliffe to the front paste down and the personal library bookplate of Sir Henry Hinchcliffe to the front endpaper. In a full calf prize binding. Externally, excellent, with light rubbing to the extremities and joints, mainly to the head of the front joint. Very small loss to leather at the head of the spine. The odd mark. Bookplates to the front paste down and front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the odd spot, heavier to maps. Very Good Indeed
