About This Item
NY: The Century Company, 1864. Book. VG. Soft cover. 8vo. 22pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 23 characteristic Harper's engravings, salvaged from a damaged issue of Harper's New Monthly Magazine, Volume XXIX, No. 172, September, 1864. From the opening paragraph, "In this Magazine for May was given a general resume of the remarkable expedition to the Arctic regions accomplished by Mr. C. F. Hall. We recur to the subject again mainly for the purpose of presenting some pictures, with pen and pencil, of Life among the Esquimaux, which no previous traveler has described so closely, and with as many facilities for observation." Illustrations include a view of the ship George Henry in winter-quarters, a scene of the wreck of the ship Rescue, an Inuit seal hunter, a group portrait of C. F. Hall and two natives, an Inuit summer village, a scene of a harpooner, an Inuit musician, a snow village, a dog team, and others of general interest. Housed in protective mylar report cover with spine sleeve..
