Front free endpaper inscribed and signed by the author "Don a la Bibliotheque de la Societe roumaine des etudes juives. Stamboul, le 27/1/1932" (Gift to the library of the Romanian society for Jewish studies. January 27, 1932).
From the library of the Grand Rabbi Prof. Dr. M. A. Halevy. The book contains a historical survey of the Portuguese Jews who emigratted to Turkey in the 16th century. It includes biographies of famous personalities, and a study of their influence in linguistics, ononomastics, and Judeo-Iberian folklore. The book concludes with the history of the Conversos in Portugal.
The Conversos were Spanish and Portuguese Jews living on the Iberian Peninsula, who converted to Christianity and in some cases continued to practice Judaism in secret.
Minor age toning to wrappers and pages. Text in French, interspersed with some Hebrew. Wrappers and
interior in overall very good condition.
