Includes Artie Shaw handwritten note and signature: pasted to first leaf (half-title page) a sheet of custom-printed memo paper printed "From the desk of Arnold Shaw." On the paper is a note penned by Shaw, in blue ballpoint, "To Paul & Helen Denis, may yours be a honkin' and shoutin' life - Affectionately, Arnold Shaw." (Paul Denis was a renowned televsion and entertainment journalist. based in NYC.) An otherwise unmarked copy, pages clean, complete and very good, slightly dust soiled and spotted along edges. Bound in clean, price intact, moderately edgeworn pictorial paper cover. Cover lightly rubbed and with a few nicks to edges, but no chips or tears. Front cover corners creased, cover spine lightly creased. Binding is firm, no splits or cracks. From the roots of R&B through early R&R, a magnificently composed history. Illustrated with 41 b&w photos. 6 x 9". xxvii + 555 pp. Signed by Author. First Paperback Edition. Trade Paperback. Very Good-. 8vo.
