London, J. Dadley after G. Oben for the Society at Head Vaccines House, Finsbury Square, 1817. Large engraved sheet, (380 x 325 mm) on thick paper with embossed gold foil seal of the Society; apart from four darker marginal spots near the corners, very good. The Royal Jennerian Society was formed at the London Tavern on January 19, 1803. Under the patronage of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the society's goal was to promote the eradication of smallpox through vaccination, work which had been pioneered by Edward Jenner. - Thomas Whitmore was M.P. for Bridgenorth, Shropshire.
