About This Item

Chatto & Windus, 1895. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG. 1st Edition. 19.7 x 13 cm green and brown decorated cloth with brown stamped title to the front and gilt stamped titles to the spine. Uncut edges, decorative blue and white endpapers, xii 240pp, 32pp publisher's catalogue dated March 1895. There is a little softening to the corners and a little rubbing to the spine tips, corners and edges. A little dulling to the gilt titles on the spine and a hint of a lean. Internally, there is a faint name to the front free endpaper, occasional light spotting and finger marks and some toning to the uncut edges. The endpapers show signs of splitting although the the binding remains firm. A newspaper article about Captain Kettle has been stuck on the front pastedown. All in all a very scarce 1st Edition, having the first appearance in print of Hyne's most famous character, Captain Kettle. It was later reprinted under the title The Little Red Captain. Extremely scarce. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
