I just finished this wonderful book and immediately went to look up what other books Mr. Ford had written. I was surprised that this was his first novel! This novel was not the quality of a beginner, but of a seasoned successful writer that I want to read more of immediately! His love story of Henry and Keiko in a time of war and prejudice, when Chinese and Japanese could not love, took me away to a time and place and made me want to dig through the basement of the Panama Hotel myself.
