Lean, offsetting to endpapers, faint foxing and insect chew to the page edges, gift inscription and date 1924 on an early page, tender hinges, a few cracked. Jacket with heavy toning and foxing, tiny edge chips and tears. Scarce in jacket. Basis for a few early films, and notably the second full-length novel featuring Mason's inspiring detective, Inspector Hanaud, the first major detective in 20th-century fiction. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
