Hardcover, original binding of brown stamped boards with gilt to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Spine is chipped, mainly along the bottom where there is also tearing present, tears also present on exterior hinge areas. Internal binding has some pulling at the front board as well as numerous spots where the page quadrants are sewn in. The front end page has some chipping near the upper left corner and a very faint inscription that starts out "Boston, Feb 1st/65 To (?? ??) Day, with Complements of (????????)" some parts are too difficult to decipher. This is the only handwriting found in the book, no bookplates, no library markings etc. Pages are toned due to age and there is some spotting and foxing present. A collection of essays on domestic home life by Harriet Beecher Stowe written under a pen name and originally published in 1864 as a series of articles in the Atlantic Magazine.
