LONDON: THOMAS NELSON Buff paper covered boards with black titles to spine and illustration to front, 190 x 135 mm approx. 490 pp. Frontis + 52 other illustrations being line drawings and b/w photos + 16 maps. Undated circa 1916/18.We have collated as regards the maps which are all present and have no reason to believe the other illustrations are not all present. The book was first published in 1903 under the title "Modern Warfare" and written by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg Royal Engineers under the Pseudonym "Ubique" and re-issued updating the new "engines of war" and providing details of "a struggle in Belgium almost identical with that now raging" Please see our images of the actual book offered for sale for further details and condition. The copy offered has the names, regiments and years of service including WWII of soldiers in pencil to the inside covers. Good (Heavy shelf wear and soiling to paper covers and corners dog- eared. Previous owner name in ing to fore edge of book block, some of the fold out maps have not been folded correctly but otherwise are in good order with only an occasional marginal tear of rubbing. The cheap quality paper of the book block is evenly tanned and there is browning to a couple of pages from a newsprint article being laid in. No other notable defects.
