About This Item

The University of Chicago Press, Chicago, IL, 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Book A seminal study in what has become the field of Eye Movement. Buswell began his research by tracking eye movement when one is reading. The importance of this book is well stated by Wade, in his 2020 review of Busell's research published in Journal of Eye Movement Research, notes, "This work was the first to explore systematically eye movements while viewing complex pictures, rather than text or simple patterns. Using complex images and scenes has become a central aspect of modern eye movement research ...." Size: Small Quarto (9-11"). 198 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight and unmarked. The coated stock, selected to allow for the extensive illustrations, is slightly toned from age. Very Good hardcover bound in blue textured paper over boards. There is some toning to the paper around the edges and the blue had faded some on the spine, though the gilt title remains bright. The corners show wear, particularly the lower corners where the cloth has started to split, exposing the boards. The unclipped ($3.00) dust jacket has a lot of loss at the corners of the front and rear panels and the head and foot of the spine, affecting the title. The front fold of the spine is split about half-way up from the foot. There are also some holes - one on the spine and three on the back panel. A previous bookseller has penciled in some information at the top of the front free endpaper. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Art & Design; United States; 1930s; Science & Technology.
