1963. Hardcover (Full Leather). Near Fine. The original typescript for Doman's groundbreaking book bound up in full red morocco with 5 raised bands, gilt compartments and lettering, marbled endpapers - a really lovely binding; in a cloth slipcase. Bound in are a sheet with an inscription to Lindley Boyer (whose name also appears in gilt on the front of the volume) "Without whose encouragement and help this book might never have been" signed Glenn and dated May 1964 - Boyer was the author of a children's book "Who are You?". Also bound in is a signed note from Doman stating thet "This is the original manuscript of How to Teach Your Baby to Read, it was written in October 1962. It is the manuscript that Random House bought and was subsequently lengthened considerable prior to its completion in June of 1963.
Doman founded The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential where he works on brain damaged children - work that led to "How to Teach Your Baby to Read" - a book that preceded decades of advancement in early childhood learning theory.
