Bound in half leather, green cloth-covered boards with brown leather spine, the second illustrated edition. xiipp, 256pp [4 advertisements], folding frontispiece + engraved plates. Hobkirk the bryologist became a bank manager at Huddersfield and Dewsbury, Yorkshire, and wrote a Synopsis of British Mosses (1873), with a second edition in 1884. With Boswell he also prepared the first edition of the London Catalogue of British Mosses (1877). An elusive local item. From the library of the local historian George Redmonds with his bookplate to fep. Also the attractive bookplate of Huddersfield historian Clifford Stephenson to inside of front board..
