London: Routledge & Kegan Paul Limited. Fair with no dust jacket. 1962. Supplemented Edition. Hardcover. "Homer Hulbert's interest in Korea was first excited when he was 21. It was never dampened until he died in Seoul at 86. His actual residence in that country was shortened to 21 years by his reluctant but painstakingly accurate attack on 'enlightened Japan's imperialism. This period saw him transformed from an inexperienced teacher of 23 in 1886 into an internationally known champion of Korean culture and political integrity of 44 in 1907." - page ED 23. (127), xiii, 427 + 456 pp. General Index. Biographical Index. Foldout inside back board of Vol I. This reprint of the 1905 first edition includes a substantial introduction, notes and bibliography by C.N. Weems. Former library copy with usual markings and above-average wear to original red cloth. Pencil markings to second half of Vol I. Front inner joint of Volume I taped. No dust jackets. A worthy reading copy of this highly-regarded two-volume set.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; Korea History .

Overseas customers please note this is a heavy set which will attract additional postage. In both volumes the boards are lightly rubbed. Volume One has a has an ownership signature on the front end paper; Volume Two a coffee cup stain and a second small stain which could be coffee on its front board. The staples on a loose leaf insert in Volume Two dealing with the American Residence left very minor injuries on the front end paper. The book has obviously been read, but remains a clean and solid copy."With a modern introduction by Clarence Weems, originally published in Seoul in 1905 to wide acclaim as the only authentic history of Korea from prehistory to the Twentieth Century, this two volume work remains required reading for students of Western historiography of Korea."
