About This Item

London England: Hodder and Stoughton, 1937. One hundred years ago next June the world heard for the first time of Queen Victoria; and the world we live in is largely the result of that eventful century. To write its history in full would be a despairing enterprise for anything short of a syndicate of centipedes with a pen in every hand. But the task undertaken in the present volume is not beyond the powers of an individual. It is an attempt to describe the leading moments of the century as they affected the leading units of the Western world. I have not tried to cover the whole area of the century with a complete and continuous chronicles of its crowded course, but rather to throw a light bridge of selected narrative across the chasm of a hundred years. But I can assure the reader that its plan, which engaged me for two years of thought and reading before I began to write this book in 1934, is quite consecutive. Couple of maps inside. Slight browning to end pages. Corners slightly bumped. Green cloth with gilt lettering.(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.). Reprint. Cloth. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardback.
