Huron-Wyandot was an Iroquoian dialect spoken along the St. Lawrence and Huronia in the 17th century. These are some of their traditional narratives, simple and direct in form. The compiler of these texts interviewed Catherine Coon, Smith Nichols, Star (Hiram) Young, Mary McKee, John Kayrahoo, Allen Johnson, Eldredge H. Brown, Mary Kelley, Henry Stand. The author hired his informants and interpreters and took their narratives down in dictation using phonetics. The 40 texts include "Phratries established," "The beaver teeth as a charm," "How a famine was ended," "The pumpkin and the rabbit," "The Wyandots at war with the Senecas," "How the whites fought the Wyandots," etc. Bibliography included.
