Garrigues, a Spanish Ambassador and novelist who researches the Spanish heritage of the US, provides a biography of Bernardo de Gálvez, who was governor of Spanish Louisiana and leader of armadas against the British during the American Revolution. He details how Gálvez took out many Redcoat forts, culminating with the defeat of British forts at Pensacola; how he made New Orleans the port to ship arms and supplies up the Mississippi River to the Continental Army; and how Spain promoted him to numerous posts until he died serving as the viceroy of New Spain in Mexico City.
