About This Item

New York: Random House, 1941. Hardcover. Near Fine. Second edition. Tall octavo. 366pp. Illustrated. Typed and blindstamped presentation slip (laid down) and six actor Signatures on front endpaper. Spine lightly toned, binding with a bit of wear at the corners, just about near fine, lacking the dustwrapper.

Actress Katherine Cornell's autobiography, presented by The Drama League of New York to Mrs. Helen J. Quinn on May 15, 1945 "in recognition of her devoted interest in the professional theatre as attested by her purchase of 103 tickets during the season of 1944-45."

Below the typed presentation slip are the Signatures of six actors, including Mady Christians, Janet Beecher, and Frank Fay. (Fay was once the most disliked man in Hollywood, but, according to some, the inventor of stand-up comedy as we know it.) We will leave it to the discerning theater lover to decipher the other Signatures. A charming New York City theater keepsake.
